Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)

4221396001_5376311910001_5376291855001-vsYes! This finally felt right. The ages, the atmosphere, the speed, everything gelled really well to make a film that matches the wittiness of the animated versions and showed us impressive yet believable modern technology. Quickly though, this is not an origin film (it’s been done to death you should know it by now) which shouldn’t be a surprise since we know Peter already had his powers in Captain America: Civil War (2016).  Also, he is a kid and they didn’t over do it with the villain which was great. No it wasn’t boring or easy for him to fight, but it didn’t feel unbelievable that a growing developing kid could take this guy out and we got such an amazing emotional scene of this kids battle.

Characters:
Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland) – the teenager who just got some epic skills to put on his resume (btw Tom Holland went back to high school to get into character)
Liz (Laura Harrier) – the love interest
Ned (Jacob Batalon) – the best friend
Michelle (Zendaya) – the encouraging outcast
Vulture/Adrian Toomes (Michael Keaton) – the hard working father
Tony Stark/Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) – the playboy father figure
Happy Hogan (Jon Favreau) – the babysitter

Summary:
“Peter Parker balances his life as an ordinary high school student in Queens with his superhero alter-ego Spider-Man, and finds himself on the trail of a new menace prowling the skies of New York City.” – IMDB Summary

Overall, this film is outstanding from amusing start to clever finish with laugh out loud moments throughout and some moments that may surprise you. I promise there is way more than what is in the trailers. Watch it and enjoy!

Spider-Man Insights (or obsession your choice of words):
There was a ton of Spider-Man history put in to this film. To start off with it was released on the 55th anniversary of Spider-Man and the 15th anniversary of the first live action film. Kevin Feige has said there are many connections to Ultimate Spider-Man (2012): it’s not an origin story, Peter is in high school (around 15 years old), wears the classic Spider-Man costume (think 1966’s Spider-Man drawn by John Romita Sr), Peter has a non-stop wit as Spider-Man, he has awkward interactions with other superheroes (and peers), Peter is a street-level hero, and Peter struggles to balance his double life. Also, in the film his iconic web wings, resizable visors and homemade costume come straight from the comics. Although many are upset about the high tech suit, many of the gadgets were ideas that appeared at one time or another in the Spider-Man comic books over the years (so get over it). Personally, I was upset with how small the spider was on the chest, but these things get explained.
